Dear Friends and Colleagues:

It is a distinct honor and privilege for me to welcome you to the Twenty-Second Ceremony and Anniversary celebration of Asian American Council. For the past twenty two years of its existence, the Asian American Council has grown tremendously and has broadened its scope and perspective toward its goal of fostering service to the community.

Founded twenty two years ago under the auspices of the Deputy Commissioner of Community Affairs of the New York City Police Department, the Council's primary goal was to support the police network within the Asian American communities. After ten years with the NYPD, the Asian American Council branched off on its own as a non-improved safety and greatly improved the relationship between the police and the Asian American communities. Our goal then, and continues to be, is service to the community by providing counseling by way of seminars, individual consulting and awareness programs. The Asian American Council provides information and guidance to the Asian community with regard to the laws, customs, business practices and social norms of the American society and for the Asian American immigrants to assimilate themselves into the mainstream American society.

The Asian American Council has been committed to improving the quality of life of Asian Americans. Our efforts include, but not limited to, outreach programs with the different departments of the city of New York, conducting seminars and symposia with the Department of Consumer Affairs, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to name a few.

As we celebrate our 22nd anniversary, I would like to thank all the members of the Council for their tireless support without whom we could not reach the lofty position we enjoy today. The Asian American Council reiterates its commitment to the Asian American communities and we promise to do more to the best of our abilities.

On behalf of the Asian American Council, we welcome you and thank you in joining with using our anniversary celebration.
